Description
The Kettering Parish Church War Memorial is located outside the north porch door of the parish church. It stands approximately 5 meters high and features a Calvary carved from shelly limestone. At the top, there is a gabled crucifix mounted on an octagonal shaft, which rises from an octagonal plinth. This plinth is set on a three-stage octagonal base made of York stone. The upper part of the shaft is adorned with a raised crown of thorns, which has the letters ‘HIS’ inside.
On the front face of the plinth, there is raised lettering that reads, ‘TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN GRATEFUL/ MEMORY OF THE MEN/ OF THIS CHURCH WHO/ DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ 1914 1918’. The opposite face of the plinth states, ‘THE NAMES OF THOSE/ WHOM THE CROSS/ COMMEMORATES ARE/ INSCRIBED ON A TABLET/ IN THE NORTH CHAPEL/ OF THIS CHURCH’.
