Description

The Public Library, built in 1904 by Goddard, Paget and Catlow, is designed in the Arts and Crafts style. It features red brick with stone dressings and a Collyweston slated roof that has three gables. The building is single-storey with projecting ends and a slightly projecting center, which includes a wide entrance with an elliptically chamfered arch accessed by stone steps. The windows are mullioned and transomed casements. Atop the roof ridge is a central lantern and cupola. The library also serves as an art gallery and is part of a group that includes the Alfred East Monument and Dryland Fountain.
