Description

Sawyer's Almshouses, dating to 1688, comprise three originally six almshouses founded by Edmund Sawyer, a London merchant and Lord of the Manor. The building is constructed from coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and stone-coped side elevation gables. Originally two storeys with attics featuring a steeply pitched thatched roof and six dormers, the building is now two storeys. There are six casement windows; the ground floor features double lights with stone mullions under dripmouldings, and lattice glazing. The first floor has glazing bars. The building has four stone chimneystacks with moulded bands.
