Description

This building is a three-storey terrace on High Street, dating from the 20th century. The front façade is stuccoed, and features a timber shopfront with a signboard. The principal eastern elevation has a symmetrical arrangement of four sash windows with 20th-century glazing across two bays; each window is framed with lugged architraves. The shopfront includes reeded pilasters designed to resemble an earlier shopfront, and bears the inscription “1909,” which refers to the year AA Thornton was founded at a different location.

The rear elevation is a 20th-century red brick structure with metal-framed windows and soldier courses. A flat-topped dormer has been added to the rear roof. A ground-floor red brick extension with a flat roof and no windows is also present, and a long, single-storey workshop wing with a monopitch roof extends along the southern edge of the plot, abutting the rubblestone ironstone wall of the Royal Hotel. This workshop wing appears to be from the 19th century and is constructed of red brick with wooden windows, featuring replacement windows and patched areas.
