Description

The Bower is a house dating from the early 16th century, with extensions added in the 17th century. The south front was refaced in the early 18th century and extended in the early 20th century. The building is timber framed, with the main front made of red brick featuring blue headers. It has a parapet that partially obscures a plain tiled roof, and there is a front stack on the right end with a corbelled top, along with similar stacks at the rear and near the center.

The house has two storeys and consists of seven bays, with two bays on the left being 20th-century additions. There are end piers and piers on either side of the third bay and the end bay on the right. A brick plat band runs over both the ground and first floors, and there is a brick string course at the top of the parapet. The parapet features seven cambered head panels, and the first floor has glazing bar sash windows set in flush frames beneath cambered heads. There is a blocked window in the second bay on the ground floor.

To the left of center, there is a panelled door surrounded by an architrave. The top panels of the door are glazed and have ogee heads. The entrance is supported by tapering Doric-style square piers that hold up a dentilled frieze of a flat roof portico, which has iron balcony railings above the return fronts, with brick below and tile hanging above.

Inside, the framing is visible, and there is a crown post roof.
