Description

Hall Grove School is a country house that has been converted into a private school. It dates from the late 18th century and features 20th-century extensions at the rear. The main block is finished in colourwashed incised stucco and has hipped slate roofs. The building has a plinth at the ground floor and deep eaves above. There is a polygonal roof over an angle bay on the front left, with a rear stack on the left, a front stack on the right, and end stacks on the right. The structure is two storeys tall with an attic, which is accentuated by three flat roof dormers near the eaves. The central dormer has a central sash light flanked by casements. The windows are arranged regularly, featuring five 12-pane glazing bar sash windows on the first floor, including three in the angle bay on the left end. The ground floor has a similar arrangement, but the left-hand window of the angle bay is blocked. To the left of the centre, there is a squat single-storey portico at the junction with the angle bay, supported by Tuscan angle piers and topped with an entablature under a parapet. The front entrance is arched and features double doors that are half-glazed. The left-hand return front is four bays wide, and there is a single-storey 20th-century extension at the rear. Inside, some fireplace surrounds and cornices remain.
