Description

Clyde House and Ellesmere is a pair of houses located in Sunbury-on-Thames, dating from the mid-18th century, with 19th and 20th-century extensions on the right. The buildings are constructed of brown brick with red brick dressings and angle quoins, topped with slate roofs that are obscured by parapets on the main house, while the extension has an exposed roof with a ridge crest.

The original range consists of three storeys over a basement, while the extension has two storeys. There is a gauged brick plat band above the ground floor and a brick modillion cornice at the base of the stone-coped parapet. The houses feature central stacks that are back to back, with additional stacks at the right, rear, and front.

On the second floor, there are four sash windows, with two on the left that have glazing-bar upper lights. The first floor also has four sash windows, again with glazing-bar upper lights, all under gauged brick heads. The ground floor has two similar sash windows to the left, and a 19th-century angle bay with plate glass windows to the right of center, topped with a ribbed ogee tent roof.

The door of Ellesmere (No. 181) has four fielded panels, with the upper two being leaded, and is topped by a traceried transom light and a shallow hood supported by fluted scroll brackets with a frieze above. There is one basement window below and to the right of this door. Clyde House features a panelled door in a 19th-century brick square porch under a tent roof, with an arched entrance and arched windows on the sides. This door is half-glazed and has two round arched lights under a fanlight. The extension to the right has two sash windows on each floor.
