Description

106 French Street is an early 18th-century house in Sunbury-on-Thames, originally known as The William and Mary House and later Wilmary. The lower storey is rendered, while the upper part is built of brown brick with red brick angle quoins and dressings. The roof is tiled, but concealed by parapets. The house is two storeys high with a basement, and features end stacks. The symmetrical facade has five bays, with five eight-light, multi-paned sash windows to the first floor, set within moulded architraves and topped with gauged brick heads. Small panels are set above the first-floor windows in the parapet, and apron panels sit below four ground-floor sash windows. Four casement windows are present to the basement level. The central door consists of six fielded panels, within a panelled pilaster surround and a traceried transome light with fan tracery. A dentil-detailed pediment sits above the door, supported by fluted scroll brackets with roundels in the frieze. A flight of seven stone steps, with iron railings that sweep outwards at the ends, leads to the door.

The return front on the right side is rendered. The rear elevation features a parallel range with two first-floor sash windows and one between floors. A tent-roofed porch is centrally located.
