Description

The Church of St Peter is a parish church with significant historical fabric. The origins of the church date back to the 13th and 14th centuries, with only the west tower and chancel surviving from that period. The main body of the church was rebuilt in the early 19th century. The tower’s upper section, above the belfry, was altered in the 18th century using brickwork. A collection of Abbey paving tiles is housed within the sanctuary. The original 15th-century chancel roof remains. The present aisles feature 19th-century balconies, with supports in the location of the former nave arcade.
