Description

The buildings at 94, 96, 98, 104, 106 and 108 Guildford Street, Chertsey, largely date from the 18th century, with subsequent alterations.

No. 94 is a two-storey and attic building with two windows, constructed of red brick and featuring a coping parapet. It has a small wood ogee bracket cornice, and the sash windows have flat-gauged arches, now without glazing bars. The ground floor contains a modern shop.

Nos. 96 and 98 represent a late 18th-century pair, each with two windows and an attic. They are built of amber brick and have flat-gauged arches over the first-floor sash windows, which retain glazing bars (except for the lower sashes of No. 96). A flush band sits below a low parapet. A square-headed dormer window is set within a mansard roof. The ground floors are occupied by shops with wooden cases featuring pilasters and entablatures.

Nos. 100 and 100A are two storeys high, with two windows at the first floor level. They are stucco-faced and painted. The sash windows have cambered heads, now with only central glazing bars. The ground floors house modern shops.

No. 104 is a two-storey and attic building with stucco-rendered, lined, and painted exterior. An old tile roof has a small gabled casement dormer. A brick toothed eaves band is present, and the sash windows are near-flush-frame, now with central glazing bars only.

No. 106 is two storeys and attic with two windows, stucco-rendered, lined, and painted. One gabled dormer has a sliding casement, while another dormer features a sash window with glazing bars. The ground floor includes a modern shop with a wooden case.

No. 108 is a two-storey and attic building with a segmental-headed dormer sash window featuring glazing bars in a tile mansard roof. The building is brick, painted, and has a three-light canted bow sash window at the first floor, with glazing bars set within a wooden case with side pilasters and an ogee bracket cornice that extends the full width of the front below a low parapet with coping. The ground floor has an early 19th-century wooden shop front, slightly projecting, with an entrance featuring a patterned radial bar fan. Sheet glass is present in the shop window and the upper part of the door.
