Description
Warren Farmhouse is a house that was originally a farmhouse, with a core dating back to the 16th century and an early 17th century four-bay wing. The building has been altered and extended around 1962. It features a timber frame with square panels and tension bracing, topped with a tiled roof. The oldest part, which is on the right, consists of one bay and has two storeys with attics. The 17th century wing has four bays and an additional one-storey bay added in the 20th century. There is a large clustered brick chimney at the junction of the two sections.
The house has three mainly modern gabled dormers with iron-framed diamond-paned modern casements, along with three iron-framed modern diamond-paned casements on the ground floor. A penticed tiled weather porch leads to a four-plank door. The 16th century section has modern iron-framed casements. There is also a one-storey mid-20th century brick and tiled extension to the entrance on the right, which is not of special interest, as well as garage extensions to the left made of brick with a tiled roof, also not of special interest.
Inside, the farmhouse contains two early 17th century brick cambered fireplaces with massive bressumers, and the ceiling in the right-hand bay of the wing retains some Lamb's tongue joists. There are several old two or four plank doors. The roof structure in the early 17th century wing is of queen post construction with through purlins and some windbraces.
