Description

Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the early 17th century and the 18th century. The building has two storeys and attics, consisting of six bays. It features a timber-framed structure that is plastered, topped with a hipped roof covered in black glazed pantiles and a coved plaster cornice. At the east end, there are remains of a cross-wing, which has a red brick north gable that includes a chimney-stack. Inside, there are three red brick internal chimney-stacks with corbelled-out heads leading to rectangular shafts.

The ground storey has four early 20th-century three-light mullion-and-transom type windows with hood moulds, along with a single-storey canted bay that has a slate roof and similar windows. There are six additional similar windows on the upper storey, and one flat-headed dormer window on the east slope of the roof. The entrance features an off-centre half-glazed door with a flat pediment and bolection-moulded architrave.

The central four bays represent the core of the original 16th-century building, although the layout has been obscured by later changes. The 17th-century cross-wing at the east end was reduced in size during the 18th century when the house was refronted and likely reroofed. The 18th century also saw the addition of a room at the west end, which has a coved ceiling and intersecting plastered beams adorned with bead-and-reel ornament. The staircase features twisted balusters and decorated open strings, and there is a small room next to the main entry that includes an original corner fireplace and a plastered cornice with egg-and-dart ornament.
