Description

This cottage, located at 1 Troston Road, dates back to the 15th century and underwent alterations in the 17th century. It is 1½ storeys tall and consists of four bays. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a pantiled roof. There is an internal chimney stack and a small lean-to extension at the east end. The cottage features three-light casement windows and one gabled dormer. Inside, the building showcases very heavy timbering with closely spaced studs, and there is one blocked original doorway. Evidence suggests that the hall ceiling and chimney stack were inserted later, as the tie beams on the upper floor have been cut and the roof raised by about 12 inches, likely during the 17th century. The property is currently under restoration.
