Description

Corner Thatch and Heathfield Lodge is a house that was originally divided into three units but is now two. It dates back to the early 16th century, with a later 17th-century wing added to the east and a south extension from around 1900. The building features two storeys in some areas and one and a half storeys in others. It has a timber-framed structure that is plastered and lined, with thatched roofs on the older sections and red brick with double Roman tiles on the 1900 extension.

The main range runs north-south and includes an internal chimney stack with three attached hexagonal shafts, arranged in a three-cell plan with a lobby entrance. The windows are small-paned casements. Inside, the timber framing is exposed, although the roof is not accessible. The principal ground-floor room, which spans one and a half bays, suggests the possibility of an older core to the house. The main cross-beams are intricately carved with unusual cresting decoration, and an applied cornice of similar design encircles the room. One section of the cornice features a more formalized design of vine leaves and grapes. There are two open fireplaces with timber lintels.

The small east-west crosswing has been extensively restored and features light framing, mid-20th-century casement windows, and doors. The south extension has an end chimney stack, a single-storey rectangular bay window with a tripartite slate roof, three sash windows with a single vertical bar in the upper storey, and a four-panel door with a plain rectangular fanlight.
