Description
The landing stage at the south-east end of Virginia Water is a Grade II listed structure featuring Roman remains that have been reset to form the landing stage. These remains include fragments from the Roman city of Leptis Magna, which is now in Libya, and were reconfigured by Sir Jeffery Wyatville after 1827. The structure consists of four square piers, each adorned with an elaborate and decorative human mask on the side facing the lake. Between the two end piers, there are cement steps leading to the water, and a plain lower section of cement blocks connects the two central piers. This landing stage is notable for its Roman fragments and has group value with the nearby Temple of Augustus.
