Description
The Mews is a large mansion from the early 19th century, now part of the Shoreditch College complex. It is constructed of yellow brick with a red brick dentil eaves course and arches. The roof is slate with lead hips and tile ridge cresting. The building has an elongated courtyard plan, featuring a two-storey east wing and a single-storey west wing.
The east wing is an elongated rectangle with cross wings, and its ground floor windows are segmental arched. At the centre, there are six gables with stone copings and arched heads, with similar windows at the ends. There are four chimney stacks, and the east elevation is made of purple stocks. Adjacent to it is a two-storey building (now the Students Union) with a rectangular plan, a hipped slate roof with half round tile hips, and a dentil course. The ground floor has four narrow French windows with fanlights, while the first floor features four four-pane top hung windows. The end elevation has three two-ring recessed arches and full height windows, along with single-storey extensions to the south.
