Description
Nos 16 and 18 on Bell Street are early to mid-19th century buildings. No 16 is the original house, featuring two storeys and a sunk basement with three windows. It is constructed of red brick and has a low-pitched, hipped slate roof with deep eaves soffits supported by paired brackets. The side windows are set in full-height raised brick panels, and the sash windows have gauged flat brick arches and glazing bars. There are two stone steps leading to the door, which has six fielded panels and a patterned fanlight, all framed by a Corinthian doorcase with an enriched frieze, cornice, and pediment. No 18 is a three-bay addition built in the same style at a slightly later date, now featuring a modern shop front on the ground floor. Nos 8 to 18 form a group.
