Description
Level Crossing Cottage is a level crossing keeper's cottage built in 1848 for the Reading, Guildford and Reigate Railway Company. It is constructed of red brick with black brick headers in Flemish bond and features a slate roof with two brick chimneystacks and one cement rendered chimneystack. The cottage is a single storey with three windows, including a canted bay on the right side that has an open pedimented gable with a blocked oculus supported on corner brackets. The windows are round-headed throughout, and there is a plinth and a weatherboarded porch. At the rear, there is a small extension from the late 19th century made of brown brick with a hipped roof. This cottage is the only remaining level crossing keeper's cottage on this railway line.
