Description
Birketts Farm House is a house dating from the 16th century, with extensions added to the front in the 17th century and to the right end in the late 18th or 19th century. The building has a timber frame, with the ground floor on the left side exposed and featuring whitewashed brick infilling. The right side is constructed of galleted sandstone blocks with brick angle quoins, and the roofs are covered with plain tiles. The first floor is tile hung and cants out over the ground floor. The house has a T-shaped plan, with a rebuilt stack at the rear left and a corbelled end stack on the right. It is two storeys high, with one 3-light window from the 20th century on the left and another window across the first floor of the left-hand gable. There is an additional window on the right-hand gable with an attic window above it. On the ground floor, there is one window to the left and two to the right, as well as one cambered head window on each floor of the right-hand gable. The door is located at the left end and is sheltered by a pentice porch. The attic on the left-hand return front is lit by a gable window.
