Description

Aldhurst Farmhouse is a hall house dating from the early 16th century, with later 16th century extensions at right angles and 19th century extensions that now face the street. The building is timber framed, with a chequerwork pattern of grey and brown brick cladding on the lower part of the rear, and brick above. The exposed end frames have colourwashed render infill. The roofs are primarily covered with Horsham slabs, except for the northern range, which has plain tiles and hipped ends. The farmhouse has an L-shaped plan, with the older range now positioned at the rear.

It is two storeys high and consists of three framed bays featuring leaded casement windows. The central door is set in a corrugated-iron arched porch. There is a pentice on the ground floor to the left and a stack at the rear where the extensions meet, forming the range that faces the street. The extensions have roofs that step up to the right and display ogee arched bracing on the first floor. The fenestration includes a mix of diamond-pane and square-pane leaded casements, with four windows on the first floor and three below. To the right of the centre, there is a door in an open gabled porch leading to a lobby entry beneath a 19th century stack. Additional 19th century stacks are present on the right-hand extension facing the street.
