Description

Great Garson Farmhouse is a possible hall house dating from the 16th century, with later 16th century extensions at both ends. The building is timber framed, with the central part clad in whitewashed brick, while the wings are underbuilt with whitewashed brick and rendered on the front. The first floor features an exposed frame in a close stud pattern. The roof is plain tiled, hipped with gablets on the central range, and has a Horsham slab roof on the left wing.

The farmhouse has a half-H plan, with a recessed central range and projecting gable front wings at each end, the left wing projecting the furthest. The ends are two storeys high, while the central section is one storey with an attic, featuring a gabled, fishscale-patterned, tile-hung leaded casement dormer. There is a stack to the right of the centre on the middle range. The left wing has two framed bays with ogee bracing on the first floor, and each gable end has one diamond-pane, 3-light leaded casement window on each floor, along with one window on the ground floor of the right return front. The centre range has one leaded casement window to the left. The right cross wing has jowled posts and arched bracing on the first floor, with a queen-post roof and one 3-light diamond-pane leaded casement window on each floor, the ground floor window featuring a tile sill and head.

There is a door to the right of centre in the central range leading to a lobby entry. At the rear, the gable projects to the left with arched bracing on both the first floor and the centre. Inside, a substantial amount of the frame is exposed, featuring chamfered joists, a brick fireplace, and some rendered infilling in the partition walls.
