Description

Mill Farm House is a house dating from the mid-17th century. It features a timber frame at the center with brick infill, some of which is arranged in a herring-bone pattern over the brick ground floor. The right side has ironstone blocks on the ground floor with brick dressings, and above is tile hanging. The left side is made of galleted sandstone blocks with brick dressings. The roof is plain tiled, with tile-hung gables displaying alternating bands of square and fishscale patterns.

The house has a large double L-shaped plan and is two storeys high. There is a corbelled multiple stack to the left of the center and an end stack to the right. To the left, there are two projecting gabled bays, each with a leaded, two-light attic casement window containing old glass. The tile hanging projects to the base, and there is a plat band over the ground floor.

On the left-hand gable, there are two 20th-century casements on the first floor, while the right-hand gable has one first-floor window and two ground-floor windows. The return wall of the right gable features two windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor. The framed section has two large 20th-century casements on the first floor, and there is one sash window on each floor of the right end, which has a brick dentil band at the base of the tile hanging.

A panelled and part glazed door is located to the left in the re-entrant angle, with a blocked window above it and a pentice to the right end. The right-hand return front has a plinth and a plat band over the ground floor, with two windows on each floor. The rear wing has been refaced in the 18th century, featuring a large tile-hung gable and a plat band over the ground floor, with two 12-pane glazing bar sash windows under gauged heads. The central door is framed by a 20th-century pilaster surround and entablature.

Inside, the substantial framing is exposed, showcasing square-panel partition walls and ceiling frames.
