Description

Maddox Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It likely dates from the earlier part of the 18th century and has been enlarged and altered over time. The building is constructed of brick, with some areas featuring scored render and all painted cream. It has a red tile roof and a brick chimney. The layout is linear and single-depth, oriented along an east-west axis, with an added wing on the left side and various extensions at the rear.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has four first-floor windows in the main section, along with two in the wing. There is a segmental-headed doorway that is offset to the left of centre, featuring a board door and a modern open porch with a pitched roof. To the left of the doorway, there is a large inserted four-light casement window, while to the right, there are two segmental-headed three-light casements and a tall early 20th-century canted bay window at the right end, which includes a glazed side door. On the first floor, there is one two-light casement and three three-light casements. The roof is half-hipped at the right end and features a corniced axial chimney on the ridge, positioned between the third and fourth windows. The left wing is flush with the main building and has one small casement window on the ground floor and two above, topped with a half-hipped roof. The rear of the farmhouse has various one- and two-storey additions that are not of special interest.

Inside, there are remnants of a timber-framed rear wall, some chamfered joists with run-out stops, but the interior has otherwise been altered. The farmhouse is included for its group value with other buildings on the site, which together form the north end of the former farmyard.
