Description
The range of farm buildings forming the west side of the former farmyard at Maddox Farm includes a shelter shed and a cowhouse, which are now used as a chicken house and store. These buildings likely date from the late 18th century and 19th century. They feature timber frames set on brick plinths, with weatherboard cladding and red tile roofs. The structure has a long linear plan oriented on a north-south axis, with the cowhouse located at the north end.
The shelter shed is a low, open-fronted building with six bays. It has chamfered stone stylobates supporting the posts on the right-hand side, while the southern half has brick stylobates. The arcade plate is supported by angle-braces, and the south end and rear are clad in weatherboard. Inside, there are some hayracks. The three-bay cowhouse is slightly higher and wider than the shelter shed, featuring a central door with handmade strap-hinges and a small six-pane fixed window to the right. The interior includes a machine-sawn queen-strut roof.
