Description

Foxglove Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the late 17th century and has been enlarged and altered over time. It features white-painted roughcast, probably over brick, with a red tile roof and a brick chimney stack. The building has a two-unit plan with lean-to additions on the left end and rear, as well as a small set-back wing added to the right-hand end.

The cottage is one-and-a-half storeys tall and was formerly symmetrical in design. It has a plinth and a first-floor band, with a central doorway that features a 19th-century glazed and panelled door beneath a pitched canopy. To the left of the door is a two-light casement window, while to the right is an inserted door that has replaced a former window. A central dormer breaks the eaves and contains a two-light casement window. The roof is adorned with a band of fish-scale tiles and has a large external chimney stack on the left gable, which is surrounded by the lean-to that includes a door and a single-light window. All the windows have glazing bars.

On the right-hand gable wall, there is an added two-storey bay window. The rear of the cottage features a catslide roof with a dormer window in the first bay. Inside, there is a timber-framed lateral partition, with the first bay containing a chamfered lateral beam with cyma stops and a rebuilt inglenook fireplace. The second bay has exposed joists, and the wall plates are visible at the first floor.
