Description

Grape Vine Cottage is a farmhouse, likely dating from the later 16th century, with an 18th-century addition and subsequent alterations. The construction is timber frame with brick nogging, accompanied by a brick addition and a red tile roof. A brick chimney is also present. Originally, the farmhouse comprised a two-unit plan, potentially of smoke-bay type, with a single-unit addition to the right side and a lean-to addition to the rear. The two-storey structure has 2½+1 bays. The timber frame consists of 4 wall posts, a mid-rail, and some studs and intermediate rails, creating 2 unequal structural bays (the first being wider), alongside a narrow bay at the left end. A doorway is situated in the second main bay, which features a 4-pane window to the left and a 2-light casement above. The first bay has a 2-light casement centrally positioned on each floor. The right-hand addition mirrors the design with similar 2-light casements on each floor; the ground-floor casement in the addition is segmental-headed. Gable chimneys are visible. A lean-to addition at the rear contains two modern dormer windows. The interior has not been inspected.
