Description

Post Cottage is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has been enlarged and altered over time. The ground floor is constructed of brick, which is painted white, while the first floor features timber framing with brick nogging. The roof is covered with red tiles, and there is a brick chimney. The building has a two-unit, single-depth lobby-entry plan, with a modern parallel addition at the rear that is not of special interest.

The cottage is two storeys high and has two bays, arranged symmetrically. The central doorway is now obscured by a modern porch with a hipped roof. Each floor has two small two-light casement windows, with the ground floor windows having segmental heads and all windows fitted with modern shutters. The timber framing on the first floor is made of light scantling and includes corner posts, studs, straight passing down-braces, mid-rails, and a wallplate. The roof is half-hipped, featuring a square chimney stack at the center.

Both gable walls have similar timber framing on the first floor. The left gable has two small windows on the ground floor and an altered two-light casement on the first floor, while the right gable has a two-light casement on the ground floor. Inside, there are large lateral beams in both bays, supported by large joists, and back-to-back fireplaces, with the fireplace in the second bay being an inglenook that has a chamfered bressummer.
