Description
The Abinger Hatch Public House is a building that originally served as a house, dating back to the 17th century, with extensions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame clad in whitewashed brick and whitewashed render on the right side, topped with plain tiled roofs. The structure has two storeys on the center and right sections, and three storeys on the left.
The central range has gabled end cross wings, with a stack at the rear center that has a corbelled top, and additional stacks on the right-hand return front. On the left side, there is one 2-light attic window and one 3-light window on each floor below the left gable end. All windows are fitted with hipped tiled hoods supported by brackets. The first floor center has two diamond-pane leaded casement windows, with two more below. The right-hand gable features one 5-light 19th-century casement window on each floor, also under hipped tiled hoods on brackets.
A half-glazed door is located to the left of the center, sheltered by a gabled 19th-century porch that extends to the right, creating another gable over the ground floor windows. There is a pentice on the ground floor to the right. The building is included for its group value as part of the ensemble surrounding the church.
