Description
The Grantley Arms Public House is a building that originated in the 15th century and was extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame on rendered footings, with whitewashed brick and render infilling above, all under a plain tiled roof. The building has rendered extensions to the left, which are set back and lower than the main structure.
It stands two storeys tall, with a jettied first floor on the old range that is oriented at right angles to the street. This section has a moulded bressumer and curved bracing. A large side stack is located at the front left, with a rear stack on the old range and corbelled rear stacks on the extension. The windows are diamond-pane leaded casements, some of which contain old glass.
On the right-hand return front of the old range, there are three under-eaves casements, along with three windows on the ground floor. Ribbed doors are positioned to the left and right of the centre. The gable end facing the street has an attic storey with two diamond-pane windows that have cambered heads. The first floor features ogee angle braces, with two 6-light mullioned and transomed windows on either side of a central post in the wall frame.
To the left, there is a single-storey range with attics under two hipped and raised ridge dormers, and three ground floor casements below. A porch and door are located at the centre left of the building.
