Description
West Wilderness Farmhouse is a house that was originally built in the 16th century and extended in the 17th, with further additions in the 19th century, and restored in the 20th century. The construction is timber framed, resting on a sandstone rubble plinth with brick infill on the ground floor. The upper parts are tile hung, with a plain tiled roof. A section to the left is built of brick, incorporating an imitation timber frame on the first floor. The farmhouse is two storeys high, featuring corbelled stacks.
No. 1, which is on the right-hand side, has a gabled end to a three-bay range with a rebuilt stack on the ridge. A single three-light window is situated on the first floor beneath a pent roof, with a two-light ground-floor window beneath it. The ground floor window has intersecting tracery bars in the transom lights and a pent roof supported by braces. A 20th-century door sits to the left, set within the angle where it connects to the range linking it to No. 2. The right-hand return front displays exposed timber framing with diagonal bracing to the first floor, containing three windows on each floor of varying sizes.
No. 2, to the left, has a tile-hung gable and a square-paned, mullioned and transomed window on the first floor. A projecting square bay window is situated below, decorated with glazing bars on the upper lights. A very tall, corbelled stack is located on the right, in the angle where it joins the linking bay. A rear door provides access to the rear of the property.
