Description

The property comprises two houses, originally a single farmhouse, dating from 1675, with significant alterations principally from the early 18th century and late 20th century. It is timber-framed with a rendered plinth, brick infill panels, and brick gable ends, all beneath a slate roof. Initially consisting of three framed bays, the building was extended to each end in the early 18th century, and its eaves were raised. The upper floor is lit by a late 20th-century dormer at the rear. The timber framing is visible with three square panels extending from the raised cill to the wall-plate. Window openings are irregular, with late 19th-century casements on the first floor to the left (No. 8) and three 20th-century casements to the right (No. 9). The ground floor features a late 19th-century casement to the left of a 20th-century door to No. 8, and the entrance to No. 9 is flanked by two 20th-century Neo-Georgian bow windows. The entrance to No. 8 has a datestone inscribed “W P”. A brick ridge stack, dated 1675, is located slightly to the left of the centre, with a rendered end stack to the right. Inside No. 9, the timber frame is largely intact. An original end wall reveals square panelling on both the ground and first floors, along with long, straight tension braces to the first floor. The main room on the ground floor retains a chamfered cross-beam and heavy joists. The original newel staircase, positioned in front of the ridge stack, features fretted balusters. A flat-roofed, two-storey extension from the late 20th century adjoins the rear of No. 8.
