Description
South Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with an extension added to the right in the early 20th century. The building has a timber-framed core that is clad in Bargate stone and galleted with ironstone, with brick dressings and red, brown, and blue brick cladding in the center. The right side features imitation timber framing with rendered infill, all beneath plain tiled roofs.
The house is two storeys high and has a tall multiple stack on the front ridge, positioned to the right of center and topped with a corbelled design. The windows are arranged irregularly, with two three-light casements on the left side on both floors, the ground floor windows having label mouldings above them. There is also a five-light leaded casement on each floor of the gabled wing to the right. The entrance features a ribbed door with pointed arched panels, located to the right of center and topped with a gauged brick head.
On the left-hand return front, there is one window on each floor and a half-glazed door beneath a label moulding. The gable has a projecting brick roundel decoration and a catslide roof to the right end.
