Description

Eastbury Manor is a house built in 1874 by Ewan Christian and subsequently converted into a nursing home. The house is constructed of red brick with decorative diaper work using black brick and stone dressings. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof and four tall, channelled brick chimney stacks. The facade has two storeys and seven windows, featuring mullioned and transomed casements set within stone surrounds, with an elaborate dogtooth and bracket cornice. Six 12-pane sashes are present, along with two stringcourses and a plinth. A central, pedimented porch includes a heraldic shield displaying the motto "SANS PEUR", supported by four Ionic columns, and features a round-headed arch with a keystone above a double door. The left side elevation includes two canted bays rising to gables. To the right is a single-storey "L" shaped wing, likely a service wing, with tall brick chimney stacks. Attached to the left is a section of curved walling incorporating a round-headed niche, linked to earlier 17th-century brickwork, which also incorporates fragments of 18th and 19th-century materials near the church.

Inside, the staircase hall contains a staircase with turned wooden banisters and a strapwork ceiling. There is also a fireplace with a wooden surround incorporating ovolo moulding and an ogee arch. The dining room has panelled ceilings and an alcove, containing a dated 1874 fireplace with the motto "SANS PEUR" above a marble insert and ovolo moulded surround. The lounge, formerly the library, features a plastered ceiling and a wooden fireplace with a marble arch.
