Description
Nos. 31, 33, 35, and 37 on High Street are houses that have been converted into shops. They were built in the early 19th century, with some alterations made to the ground floor in the 20th century. The building features whitewashed brick on the left side and painted brick on the right, topped with a slate mansard roof. It has three storeys and attics, which include two segmentally-headed casement dormers and a red/brown brick chimney stack in the center.
On the second floor, there is one sash window for each half of the building, both with gauged brick heads; the right side has a 16-pane window with margin-lights. Each half also has one 12-pane glazing-bar sash window on the first floor, which is recessed into gauged-brick semi-circular surrounds with impost blocks. The ground floor features 20th-century shop fronts. The left-hand return front is three bays deep and has glazing-bar sash windows, although some of these windows are blocked. This building is included for its group value.
