Description
The stable block, located 20 yards north of Send Grove, dates from the late 17th century with extensions and alterations from the mid-18th century. It features a timber frame in the center, with brick at the ends and rear, and a front covered in colourwashed roughcast. The rear displays exposed red and blue brick. The building has plain tiled roofs that are hipped at the center and is topped with a central wooden square cupola beneath a ribbed dome, complete with a weathervane finial.
On each side, there are arched openings, and the east side features a large clock face set into the plinth that cuts into the roof pitch. The stable block is two storeys high, with brick dentils along the eaves and around the end gable pediments of the flanking wings. The gable ends have block rustication around the arched entrances, with impost blocks and voussoirs. The first floor has two painted false windows in the center, while the ground floor has two casement windows. A hayloft door is located at the center of the first floor, and there is a plank door at the center of the ground floor. The clock workings are still present inside the building.
