Description

Sendholme is a house built in 1863 by George Devey. It features snecked sandstone at the base with red brick above, some blue brick detailing, and a terracotta tile mosaic on the first floor, all topped with plain tiled roofs. The house has tall proportions, standing two storeys high with attics in the gables. The garden front showcases gables with rendered edge bands and rounded apexes, along with tall, star-shaped, corbelled stacks on the ridges and the gable end of the entrance wing.

On the garden front, the windows are stone dressed, and there are stone quoins at the angles and plinths. The outer gabled bays are flanked by a recessed center. The left gable projects and features a flat-roofed square bay at the front right of center. There are two hipped-roof dormers in the center of the roof and an angle bay under a hipped roof with brick dentil eaves on the left gable bay. Each floor of the bay has a 5-light window with arched center lights, and there is a shield above the ground floor arch. The ground floor also has a 5-light mullioned and transomed window, with a similar angle bay on the right gable. To the left of center, there are double leaded casement doors in a recess under a pentice hood.

The entrance front has the main house to the right and a lower wing projecting to the left. The main range has three staggered gables with dripper patterned brickwork and brick dentil bands. The fenestration is irregular and from the 20th century. There is a columned screen to the right taken from a church, with a door to the left. The ends of the building feature curved walls with square end piers topped by stone urns and sphere finials.
