Description
The workshop at Worsfold Gates on the Wey Navigation is a late 17th-century building. It features a timber frame with tarred weatherboard cladding set on a rendered brick plinth, topped with a plain tiled roof that is hipped to the right. To the left, there is a single-storey extension with a hip roof. The building has a rectangular plan consisting of four bays. On the right side, there are two mullioned windows beneath the eaves, each containing seven lights with overlapping glass panes. The ground floor includes metal-framed windows, one with five lights and another with twelve lights. There are double doors on the right-hand return front, which are sheltered by a drip board. A hearth is located at one end of the workshop. This structure is associated with the Wey Navigation Canal, which was cut in 1653, and it may have served as the workshop for the construction of the lock gates.
