Description
Garden Reach Cottage is a mid-18th century cottage located in Esher, Borough of Elmbridge. It is constructed of red brick with a plain tiled, half-hipped roof, and has rear stacks positioned to the left and right. The cottage is one storey high with an attic space accommodated by three flat-roofed dormers. It features casement windows, with the window to the left of the ground floor having a cambered head, and the window to the right of the ground floor beneath a lead pentice roof. The central entrance is a half-glazed door within an architrave surround, sheltered by a flat, lead-covered hood with a small scroll strip. A 20th century single-storey extension with an attic is attached to the right side of the cottage, and a further tile-hung extension is set back even further to the right. It is believed to have served as the gardener’s cottage, linked to the remodelling of Esher Place in the 1730s, a project undertaken by William Kent.
