Description

Hatchford Park School is a large house, originally built in 1850 and substantially remodelled in the 1890s by Rowland Plumbe. It now functions as a school for children with special needs. The building is constructed of red brick with areas of tile hanging and half-timbered gables incorporating rendered infill. The roofs are tiled, with prominent star-shaped chimney stacks at the ends and centre of the building. It is a rectangular structure with two storeys over a basement, and has attic space beneath hipped roofs with dormers featuring leaded casements.

The symmetrical front of the house has five bays, with the end and central bays each gabled. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with leaded glass. The first floor has eight windows, a large staircase window to the left of the centre, and angle bay windows on the outer bays. The central entrance features half-glazed doors surrounded by stone, supported by Jacobean-style piers, and sheltered by a large wooden hood with three wrought iron hangers.

The garden front is similar in design, but has a central bowed bay that rises to a conical roof.

Inside, some original panelling and plasterwork from the earlier house remain. A large, square staircase in a Jacobean style is also present.
