Description

Chestnut Lodge is a house dating from around 1830. It is rendered and has a hipped slate roof with stacks topped by moulded details. The rectangular house has three bays at the front and extends four bays to the rear. Deep eaves are supported by paired brackets, and the quoined corners are a notable feature. The first floor has tripartite sash windows set within projecting architraves, with cill brackets beneath. Ground floor windows are hooded, the hoods resting on scroll brackets. A central four-panel door, with glazed upper arched panels, is sheltered by a flat-roofed porch featuring Doric pilaster piers and a gabled parapet. A two-storey, flat-roofed addition was added in the 20th century to the right side, with a central arch on the ground floor. The left return front displays four bays with pediment hoods over the ground floor centre windows, and an angled bay to the right. A further extension exists to the rear, also dating from the 20th century.
