Description
The buttery, located 2 yards west of Number 68 (Holly Lodge), was built in 1869. It features a pebbledashed exterior with plain tiled roofs and a central lead finial. The structure is octagonal, single-storey with an attic, and has triangular gable dormers on alternating sides. The windows have triangular leaded lights. Surrounding the buttery is a single-storey pentice roof ambulatory supported by rustic tree-trunk columns, which extends into a four-bay corridor connecting to the rear of Holly Lodge. There is an ogee-type, arched leaded door, partially glazed, located in the bay to the northwest.
Inside, the buttery has a mosaic terrazzo floor and a marble shelf on brackets around five sides. The upper part of the walls is adorned with 17th-century Delft, hand-painted tiles featuring various patterns, including ships, mermaids, tulips, and flowers. The ceiling beams converge in the center to form a pendant.
