Description

The obelisk, located 10 yards to the rear of Number 6 (Home Farm House) in Esher, dates from the early 18th century. It is made of stone and stands on a square moulded plinth. The obelisk shaft is approximately 50 feet high. Inscriptions on the sides of the plinth commemorate the purchase of the estate by Sir John Vanbrugh, the construction of Claremont House by Henry Holland for Lord Clive, and include a memorial inscription to Prince Leopold and Princess Charlotte.
