Description

This barn, now a house, dates to around 1720 and may have been designed by Sir John Vanbrugh. It is constructed of brick with slate roofs, featuring end stacks with decorative brick detailing. The barn’s cross-shaped design sits on a brick plinth and incorporates a plat band above the ground floor, with a dentilled brick plat band to the eaves forming a pediment moulding that is open at its base. It has three bays, with a central projecting section beneath the pediment. Windows are largely 20th-century leaded casements, including a four-light window in the outer bays and a lunette window on the first floor centre. A planked and ribbed door is set behind 20th-century glazed doors. The left return front features a pediment moulding and two ground floor angle bay windows. The right return front includes a catslide extension with an end wing and garage additions. It originally formed part of the service buildings associated with Claremont House.
