Description

Two small houses, likely dating from the early 18th century, are situated on the Oxford Road in Neat Enstone. They are constructed from roughly-coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels and some squared dressings, topped by a Stonesfield-slate roof and featuring brick end stacks. The houses have two-unit plans, arranged in a single range. Each house is two storeys high. The upper floor of each house has two two-light casement windows; the ground floor windows are larger. No. 1, located on the right-hand side, has three-light casements on the ground floor, while No. 2 has a two-light casement and a canted bay window. A door to No. 1 is positioned on the extreme left, where it adjoins a straight joint, indicating that the remainder of the range is probably of earlier construction and features a central doorway. The interiors have not been inspected. These cottages demonstrate group value by representing a typical example of rural housing from the period.
