Description

The Manor Farm House and Adams Stores is a farmhouse, now a house and part of a shop, dating to the late 17th and early 18th century, with extensions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The construction is of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and wooden lintels, topped with a concrete plain-tile roof and brick stacks. The design follows a 3-unit through-passage plan, incorporating a rear stair projection and later additions. The two-storey building has a regular four-window front, with the entrance centrally positioned in the second bay, beneath a 2-light casement window. Three-light casement windows are found in bays one and three, and a 20th-century projection occupies bay four. Most window openings have chamfered lintels. The steeply-pitched roof features three 20th-century roof dormers and a ridge stack to the right of the passage, with a second stack on the right gable parapet. A 19th-century range, part of Adams Stores, is attached to the left end of the house and projects beneath a gable. The rear of the house includes a tall gabled stair projection, although it is largely obscured by later additions. Inside, the house features stop-chamfered cross beams, a large open fireplace backing onto the through passage, and a winder stair rising to the attics, notable for its continuous octagonal newel and a ball finial. The roof structure is characterised by butt-purlins. Adams Stores projects one bay into the Manor Farm House on the ground floor, but the rear, a 19th-century range, is not considered of special architectural interest.
