Description

Bridge View is a cottage located in Filkins, dating from the 17th to early 18th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone and features a stone slate roof. The cottage has a rubble stone chimney on the left side, which has a pair of square shafts. It is one storey high with an attic and consists of two bays. The ground floor has various two-light casements, including a 19th-century wooden casement in the left bay and a 20th-century cross window in the right bay. The upper storey features gabled eaves-line dormers, with a circa 1960s wooden casement on the left and a 19th-century metal casement on the right. There is a central 20th-century door in an altered opening, and all ground floor openings have wooden lintels. The left bay is slightly lower and of later date, featuring garage doors, with other extensions at the rear.

Inside, the cottage has a heavy chamfered spine beam with a run-out stop at the left end, and a similar wooden lintel over an altered fireplace. There is a heavy chamfered lintel over the central rear doorway. A wide winder staircase is located in a curved well, aligned with the stack. The upper fireplace has chamfered stone jambs, and there are old purlins along with traces of a hayloft door in the right bay. The cottage is also known as Bridge Cottage.
