Description

Fox House is a house that likely originated in the 17th century, with a left bay that was raised in the late 18th century, marked with the date WB 1727 on the quoin. The right bay dates from the early 18th century. There is a 20th-century extension at the rear. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone, with the right bay being semi-dressed and featuring dressed quoins. It has a stone slate roof with moulded stone gable copings and flanking chimneys that have been rebuilt in brick. The house has two storeys and an attic, with two bays.

The right bay features a moulded stone string at the first floor level and stone mullion windows with recessed chamfers. The ground floor has a three-light window, while the first floor has a cross window. The left bay has wooden casements with single horizontal glazing bars and wooden lintels. The lintel of the three-light ground floor window is from the 20th century, while the two upper two-light windows have older lintels. There is a central 20th-century barred and glazed door, topped with a stone slab hood supported by 20th-century shaped stone brackets. The attic includes a skylight in the left bay and a single light in the left gable end. The 20th-century rear wing matches the style of the main house.

Inside, the left bay features a stop-chamfered cross beam in the ground floor ceiling and an upper flight of winder staircase with old board doors aligned with the left chimney. The right bay has a chamfered stone fireplace, another axial winder stair, and one truss with old principal rafters, although the roof has otherwise been re-roofed.
