Description

The Round House is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with a thatched roof and a brick end stack. The cottage is one storey with an attic, and has a four-window front and a four-unit plan. A 20th-century door is positioned to the right of the centre, with a wooden lintel flanked by three-light casement windows also bearing wooden lintels. Similar casement windows can be found to the far right, and to the far left, while the attic floor features eyebrow dormers with two-light casement windows, each with a wooden lintel. The right-hand end of the cottage facing the road is rounded.

The interior features chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a cambered bressumer, displaying ogee-stop-chamfered detailing. A blocked inglenook is also present, along with a collar truss roof. One room in the rounded end of the cottage was formerly used as a barn. The cottage has historically functioned as two or three separate dwellings. A brick ridge stack associated with the blocked inglenook has been dismantled, although the chimney breast remains.
