Description

This barn, located approximately 100 meters northeast of Finstock Manor House, likely dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed from squared and coursed limestone and features a roof that has stone slates on the front and corrugated iron on the rear. The barn consists of five bays and has opposed central cart entrances. At the front, there is a central porch with a weatherboarded gable and a pair of large boarded doors supported by a wooden lintel. A loft opening is present in the right-hand return, also with a wooden lintel. To the left of the porch, there is a lean-to addition, which was later used as pigsties, indicated by straight joints. The left gable end includes a rectangular vent or owlhole at the apex and a 2-light loft window with a wooden lintel. The right gable end features a small-paned glazed window with a wooden lintel, and there is a lean-to porch at the rear. Although the interior has not been inspected, it likely contains a roof with pairs of purlins and lofts at each end, as suggested by the beam-ends visible in the side walls. This barn is part of a farmstead group situated to the northeast of Finstock Manor House.
