Description
Stable Cottage is a house dating to 1732, located on the south-east side of the village street in Filkins and Broughton Poggs. The date "REH 1732" is inscribed on a tablet positioned between the upper left-hand windows. The construction is of coursed rubble limestone, with the front elevation featuring alternating bands of rubble and dressed stone. Dressed stone quoins are present, along with coved plaster eaves. The roof is covered with stone slates, featuring coped gables and rendered chimneys on both sides. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. Windows are C19-C20 wooden cross windows set within original beaded stone surrounds. The central entrance features a six-panelled door in a matching surround, topped with a semi-circular stone hood supported by shaped stone brackets. Two narrow skylight slits are incorporated into the roof. A C20 lean-to extension has been added to the right end, containing a door and a two-light metal casement window.
